The trainer’s craft: advanced practice

You can lead a course. Now work on the details that make a difference.

Learning & AI

You have led plenty of groups, developed reliable approaches and collected a few situations that still make you think. Bring them along. This is a working session for experienced trainers who want to keep questioning and refining their craft.

Everyone’s experience becomes material for shared learning. We will unpack real situations, compare approaches and test alternatives. Emerging ideas have a place here, but a new name alone is no reason to adopt a method.

Who it is for

For experienced trainers, internal learning professionals and facilitators who independently design and lead adult learning. Bring your own practice and a willingness to share what did not work as well as what did.

What you will practise

  • Refine an activity or a difficult training situation with experienced peers.
  • Deepen your practice in debriefing, group dynamics and complex learning methods.
  • Explore emerging approaches and AI tools, then choose what is worth testing.

How we will work

A peer workshop combining case consultation, participant demonstrations and shared experiments. Your cases shape the emphasis of the day. For each approach, we ask who it helps, under what conditions and how we would recognise its value. The emerging-practice segment is refreshed for each delivery.

The programme

90 minutes · The cases that stay with us

  • Map shared experience and select cases with the greatest relevance to the group.
  • Explore a real case with peers: understand it before offering advice.

90 minutes · An advanced methods lab

  • Refine simulations, case studies and experiential activities: instructions, challenge and alignment with the objective.
  • Practise deeper debriefing: from describing an experience to interpreting it and applying the learning.

90 minutes · When the group surprises you

  • Work with resistance, emotion, power and unexpected turns in a discussion.
  • Short participant demonstrations, observation, specific feedback and a second attempt.

60 minutes · New ideas, tested critically

  • Try emerging approaches and digital tools relevant to the group, including AI for preparation or practice.
  • Ask what need an idea addresses, what supports it and where its limitations lie.

30 minutes · Your next course, improved

  • Share useful approaches and refine an activity of your own.
  • Plan a small experiment: what to try, what to observe and when to review the experience.

What to bring

Bring one activity to improve or a challenging training situation. Prepare a brief context: who the participants were, the intended outcome and what happened. Remove sensitive details from shared examples.

What you will take away

Leave with a refined activity or an approach to your own case, feedback from experienced peers and an experiment to try in your next course.
